What next for Dillian Whyte?

Things could have been very different for Dillian Whyte had he not picked himself up off the canvass in the 12th round and held on to claim a unanimous points decision over Joseph Parker on Saturday night.

After dominating the fight and flooring his New Zealand opponent on two occasions, Whyte was staring down the barrel with just seconds to go before being saved by the final bell, unlocking the door for a potential big money fight with WBC Champion Deontay Wilder.

With Joshua being forced to fight Alexander Povetkin in September, Dillian Whyte and promoter Eddie Hearn are set to offer Wilder in the region of $7m to get the fight nailed down for November in Brooklyn.

One expects this will be of great interest to the explosive American, who would have seen Whyte taking the punishment at the end of his fight with Parker. Adding to this the fact that Whyte would be willing to travel to the US for the fight is another factor that could tip the balance in favour of a deal being done.

One stumbling block is the fact that apparently Dominic Breazeale has been lined up to face Wilder in the Autumn, although one expects his team will realise this is not a money spinner, with Whyte by far a more lucrative option.

Another option being looked at is Fury taking on Wilder in November or December, with promoter Frank Warren already in discussions about this clash.

If Hearn fails to strike up a deal with Wilder’s team, which is more than possible knowing the difficulty experienced getting the AJ – Wilder fight together, then perhaps another tear-up between Chisora and Whyte could be made. The pair went toe-to-toe back in December 2016, Whyte coming out on top by a split decision, in one of the best fights of the year.

Chisora has also just come off a brilliant win of his own, an 8th round stoppage of Carlos Takam, and you can bet Del Boy would love a chance to get his revenge, although with Wilder now being the priority, it is highly unlikely the rematch will take place so soon.

Adding to this the Wilder fight could lead to a potential rematch with Joshua, a fight Whyte has desperately wanted after losing to him in 2015.

It is pretty clear what the focus now is for Eddie Hearn and Dillian Whyte. Get the fight with Wilder, beat him and square off with Joshua at Wembley.

Not sure how realistic this thought process is, as for me Wilder nails Whyte in pretty good time if the fight goes ahead.
