Tyson Fury targets Joshua next summer

Tyson Fury makes his much anticipated comeback this weekend when he takes on cruiserweight Sefer Seferi at the Manchester Arena. The former WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion of the world hasn’t fought since he claimed the titles by beating Waldimir Klitschko back in 2015, however Fury has already insisted that he will reign supreme again in the division by beating Anthony Joshua in front of a sellout crowd next summer.

Fury hit rock bottom after that stunning win over Klitschko, a period that saw him being stripped of his titles after failing a drugs test, followed by personal issues and depression that saw him lose his boxing license.

During his absence the heavyweight division has come to life with Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder stealing all the headlines, one of the main motivations behind Fury getting his head focused back on the business of boxing.

While out of the ring, Fury’s weight ballooned to over 26-stone, leaving fans to believe that there was no way back for the Gypsy King, however barely three months after he announced that he will be returning to the ring, Fury has shed an incredible 7-stone under the watchful eye of new trainer Ben Davison.

The former champion brought in Davison after ending his relationship with Peter Fury, a move that seems to have paid off. He also spent time training with former welterweight world champion Ricky Hatton, another sign that he was taking this second shot at glory extremely seriously.

Davison has kept Fury on a strict routine and provided him plenty of mental stimulation while in the camp, a strategy that has certainly kept the wayward star focused.

Adding to this, his team have created a long term plan which they believe will lead to a showdown with Joshua next summer and ultimately see him back at the top of the heavyweight division.

First things first, Fury needs to overcome his opponent on Saturday night and several more prior to any box office fight.

If the results are as spectacular in the ring as they have been physically out of it, Fury will be serious threat to both Joshua and Wilder, not to mention any opponent that comes before!
