Real Madrid have a number of issues they are currently trying to deal with, a new manager to replace Zidane for one, followed by a new deal for their star man Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has been in talks with the Real Madrid hierarchy for over a year now and following his possible leaving comments after a third consecutive Champions League win, it appears his Madrid paymasters have decided to move forward by offering Ronaldo an improved deal.

Reports from Spain are suggesting that Real President Florentino Perez has offered the player an improved £28.5million-a-season, which includes a series of performance related bonuses.

This is a significant increase from his current deal that sees him earn £18m-a-year and if the Portuguese superstar accepted the deal it would break down to an incredible £550,000-a-week!

While most will see this increase as staggering, the 33-year-old is expected to refuse the deal on the basis that Lionel Messi is currently on £35m-a-year, approximately £600,000-a-week. All along the five time Ballon d’Or winner has insisted that he deserves to be on the same level as both Messi and Neymar, so on this basis one expects the negotiations to continue for some time to come.

The issue for Ronaldo is that there are very few clubs that can afford him at this level, so surely he will want to find a solution and stay with Los Blancos? He is already the leading scorer in the history of the club, with the new deal simply enabling him to cement that legacy and put his goal scoring record out of reach for decades to come.

Reports from Spain have suggested this would be a breakdown of the performance related bonuses, £1.7m for winning the Champions League, £1.3m for winning La Liga and £900,00 for the Copa del Rey.

He will also pick up £900,000 each for winning both the Ballon d’Or and FIFA’s The Best Player prize along with £450,000 for the Trofeo Pichichi, with another £450,000 tied into making a certain number of appearances.

While these numbers are more than impressive, he will want to take into account what Neymar will be paid if he arrives at the Santiago Bernabeu. Speculation is mounting that Real are prepared to meet the £307m buy-out clause in his PSG contract, despite knowing that if they wait until September 1st they will get him for £263m.

The Brazilian is thought to be on £600,000-a-week at PSG, which is already more than Real are offering Ronaldo. If they were to sign him, you have to think that figure will be more than he is currently on!

This will not please Ronaldo who has been their star man since he joined in 2009.
