McGregor Pleads Guilty to disorderly charges

Conor McGregor has pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge for his part in an assault back in April at a New York sports arena.

On April 5th of this year, McGregor turned up mobbed handed at a major UFC event being held at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, where he proceeded to attack a bus arriving with several of the fighters involved on the fight night card. Several of the fighters were injured with both Ray Borg and Michael Chiesa being forced to withdraw from the event due to injury. The Irishman then proceeded to run from the scene, eventually turning himself into the police the following day.

In a hearing held yesterday in New York, McGregor avoided a prison sentence by pleading guilty for his part in the incident, resulting in restitution charges for the van, five days of community service and will have to attend anger management classes.

Luckily for McGregor his plea did not affect the status of his US travel visa which is essential if he is to make a return to the octagon in a few months.

McGregor hasn’t taken to the Octagon since his Lightweight Championship win over Eddie Alvarez in November 2016 at UFC205, although he was involved in the mega fight with Floyd Mayweather Junior.

The fighter has made no secret of the fact that he will return to the UFC later this year and now that the court case has been settled, one expects the Irishman to make a return to the sport that catapulted him to superstar status.

Current UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, wasted little time calling out McGregor, the Russian sending out #SendmeLocation out on his Instagram feed the moment his case was completed

Adding to this his manager Ali Abdelaziz was also reported telling MMA Fighting, “This is the Khabib show now. To be honest, the way I feel about it, Conor would be much safer in jail. If this fight happens, the person who would execute the community service is Khabib by giving this ass whooping for the people.”

While the fighters appear to be ready to get it on, UFC President Dana White did say back in April that McGregor would most likely never fight in the UFC again. I expect White will do a U-turn on those comments as there is no fighter out there in the UFC that drives an audience quite like the Irishman.

McGregor v Khabib is exactly what the fighters and the fans want and looking at the dates planned, we could see them topping the bill in either UFC229 at the T-Mobile Arena in October, or UFC230 on the 3rd of November at Madison Square Garden!
