Conor McGregor makes his much anticipated return to the octagon on October 6 in Las Vegas, when he takes on Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title at UFC 226 in what has been billed as the biggest UFC fight in history.

The pair have been on a collision course since McGregor claimed the lightweight title in UFC 205, however after almost two years out of the octagon due to his fight with Mayweather and the New York incident that saw the Irishman get arrested for attacking the fighter’s bus, fans have had to wait for some time to finally see them get it on.

Their contrasting styles makes this an intriguing clash, although their genuine dislike for each other will bring an explosive edge to the fight which could spark a rather damaging and bloody affair.

Their feud was first sparked by a falling out between his training partner Artem Lobov and Nurmagomedov, which has spilled over into a personal one between to two elite fighters.

McGregor is unquestionably the most celebrated UFC fighter in history and without doubt the biggest draw card for Dana White and the franchise. He first unified the featherweight division by beating Chad Mendes in UFC 189, then a year later he beat Jose Aldo at UFC 194, knocking out the Brazilian in just 13 seconds of the first round.

He then moved up to welterweight for the double header against Nate Diaz, before moving back down to beat Eddie Alvarez and claim the UFC lightweight title, becoming the first two-division champion in UFC history.

The Irishman was stripped of the lightweight belt which is now with Nurmagomedov, after he beat Al Iaquinta in April of this year in Brooklyn, the same event McGregor caused the damage at that led to his arrest.

The news of McGregor’s return, especially in such an explosive bout with the Russian, has certainly got the attention of fight fans around the world, something that didn’t appear possible back in April after UFC President Dana White insisted that the Irishman might never fight in the UFC ever again.

The question is who wins this one?

McGregor has just the one UFC loss and that was to Diaz at welterweight, while Khabib has yet to lose during his time in the UFC. The pair have contrasting styles with McGregor preferring to flatten his opponents with his fists and the Russian who does the damage on the canvass.

There is something special about the Irishman both in and out of the octagon. He reels people in with his antics in the build up to his fights and backs that up with his exceptional ability. It is going to be a brutal fight and if the Irishman is going to win he will need to do it on his feet and not get drawn into any battle on the floor that could lead to a submission.

Have to go with a McGregor win here and by knock-out which is available at 7/4.
